Jeff Huber is a VW genius
I”ve known Jeff approximately 3 years. He has walked me through many situations on getting my dune buggy from a pile of parts to running buggy. It has a 2.0 liter Porsche engine with Weber 40 IDF’s and 091 trans axle. Jeff coached me through engine top-end repairs, setting up the dual Webers, shifting problems on the 091and many more items than I have time to list. If you are having VW trans axle issues, Weber issues need fab work you have. found the right man here @ Gear Garage. HAPPY V DUBBING. Bobby.8
I am an avid off-roader in the woods buggy scene and have owned several VW-based rail buggies over the past 10 years. Jeff has always done all my transaxle work, everything from a mild 5-rib to a wild 094 Vanagon transaxle with air locker differential and a Stick-O-Matic fluid drive setup. Jeff’s unique skill set and absolutely meticulous nature is a potent combination as is evident from his collection of magazine-quality show cars. His fab work is awesome and his engineering skills are superb. Anyone that rides with me (including Jeff himself) can tell you that I am not exactly gentle on transaxles in the woods, but as long as Jeff built it I know it will take whatever I can throw at it.
You certainly do great work,
I also see you are a honest hard working man.
Great value in your technical advice
Glad to hear you’re business is doing well enough for you to go full time with it! I’m finally on a real schedule to definitely be ready to start building a chassis for my dune buggy early next Spring (there is a light at the end of the tunnel finally). Assuming I don’t lose my job between now and then, I’ll be ready by mid March 2015. To date, I’ve got nearly all of the suspension parts together, wheels, and an engine (with carbs) and various other small bits. I’m currently only waiting on custom shock towers for the beam and custom brake caliper brackets for the rear trailing arms (designed myself). They’re only hinging on the work being done by friends of mine doing it for free which means I get to wait in line behind paying jobs (If they aren’t done by January of next year I’ll pay to get them done). If that fits in with your current work schedule let me know, or if not let me know when a good time might be to get things rolling (pun intended).
To date, I’ve found great value in your technical advice. The small amount of business I’ve done with you so far has gone great and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you anyone looking for parts or transaxle service. I’ve always been impressed with what I’ve seen of your fabrication capabilities, and look forward to the opportunity of having you build a tube frame for my dune buggy project.
Hope things are going well and that you enjoy running your own business, and hopefully get a little extra time for yourself to enjoy.
Jeff built a transaxle for me and it was a great experience. We had a slight problem with it and you fixed it ASAP I was very pleased with the experience. And look forward to doing business with you in the future. The quality of your workman ship is superb and your craftsman skills are some of the best I have seen. Good luck at gear garage. Ps maybe those Toyota’s will slow down now. Lol
We use Jeff at Gear Garage for our transmission rebuilds. He has always done a good job and haven’t had any issues.
Your craftsmanship is second to none
I just wanted to say thanks! Your craftsmanship is second to none. Having a good product is one thing. You however go above and beyond with sharing your knowledge. I am a new vw owner and when i came to you with a broke 6 rib transmission you walked me through what was happening with it and what could be hidden. I really appreciate that! Your turn around time was fast and now iam on the road with total confidence. Also after the fact when I was having trouble with a clutch adjustment you took time out of your day to assist me and a follow up call to make sure I was up and going. That means a lot to me and I will never go anywhere else for my mechanical needs!
Special thanks to Jeff
Special thanks to Jeff for getting me set up with the gear ratio chart and help selecting what was best for my setup, Jeff is the only vender that I have done business with that did what he said he would do in only a couple of weeks, very detailed and clean and the tranny works great , Thanks Jeff.
Job well done!
I have been restoring and building custom VWs for 45 years and must say that Jeff is a true artist with transaxles. He did a wonderful job with the transaxle rebuild on my personal touring trike and I can now cruise at interstate speeds with the engine taching below 3000 rpm. It is smooth, quiet and reliable. He does a thorough job with no “shortcuts”, engineers the gear ratios to your needs and knows how to eliminate any inherent weaknesses with your particular transaxle. You will get a transaxle that is far better than the new original at a very fair price. Thanks again Jeff, for a job well done! Mike Calhoun
Thanks to Jeff i am
Thanks to Jeff i am back on the road again after a bearing failure, Jeff is a great guy to do business with, keeps his word and does what he says he will do in a timely manner and pricing , his honesty and workmanship is over tbe top, Thanks Jeff i will make the trip to tennessee this year.
The sand rail is finally together and runs great
I just wanted to take a moment and thank you again for the job you did building my transmission. The sand rail is finally together and runs great, the gearing ratio’s we talked about and you recommended are perfect to say the least.
When it was time to rebuild my transmission for my sand rail. Everyone suggested Jeff Huber. After speaking to him on the phone it was clear he knew what he was doing. So I took a ride to his shop to meet him and drop off my transmission. I was very pleased to see how Jeff kept his shop. I have been to other shops and been very disappointed to see they were very unorganized. I wondered if they kept their work area in that shape, how could they do quality work on my buggy. Jeff takes his time to make sure his customers feel comfortable and trust his word. He even pointed out that I was running the incorrect T/O bearing for my 002 bus transmission. He sent me an image of the correct T/O bearing so I could find it. Thank you Jeff. I appreciate your valuable knowledge.
I own a Porsche 914 V8 conversion that Jeff built. It is an awesome car. Truly an engineering masterpiece. You won’t go wrong with anything Jeff gets involved with.
